For example, bloodhounds have been used to help hunt animals for hundreds of years. Bloodhounds can also be helpful in finding missing people. For instance, they can track a missing hiker’s scent through the woods. In one famous story, a bloodhound was taken to the scene of a fire. Although the fire had been out for days, the dog picked up a scent and followed it. In a house more than a kilometre away, the dog located the man who had set the fire. Police can use bloodhound evidence like this in court to help make sure that the right person is prosecuted.
