Stefon’s Service

‘Uncle Dwayne, check out Marge’s new skill!’ Stefon waited for his uncle to come into the living room, then gave the dog the command to open the front door.

Using her mouth, Marge tugged at the rope Stefon had tied to the door handle. Once the door was open, she waited while Stefon walked through, then followed him.

Uncle Dwayne applauded as they came back in. ‘Remarkable! I can’t believe you’ve only been training her for a few months.’

Stefon beamed. ‘I feel like Marge and I have known each other forever.’ He gave Marge a treat and a fond ear rub. Marge wagged her tail as if she knew exactly what Stefon was feeling.

Stefon was training Marge for the Friendly Paws Assistance Dog Society. Once Marge completed training, she’d be ready to work with a visually impaired person or someone else who would benefit from assistance. 

‘You’re going to ace that test,’ Stefon told Marge
