The Brain
Key Notes:
The Brain’s Role:
The brain is the control center of the body. It helps us think, learn, remember, feel emotions, and control actions like walking, talking, and breathing.
- Cerebrum: The largest part of the brain, responsible for thinking, learning, and memory. It controls voluntary actions like moving your arms and legs.
- Cerebellum: Located at the back of the brain, it helps with balance, coordination, and fine motor skills (like writing).
- Brainstem: Connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls vital functions like breathing, heartbeat, and digestion.
Left and Right Brain:
- The brain is divided into two halves, called hemispheres.
- The left hemisphere controls the right side of the body and is associated with logic, math, and language.
- The right hemisphere controls the left side of the body and is linked to creativity, art, and spatial awareness.
Neurons:
The brain is made up of billions of tiny cells called neurons. Neurons send messages to different parts of the body, helping us move, think, and react.
Brain Health:
- Getting enough sleep, eating healthy food, and exercising help keep the brain strong and healthy.
- Avoiding harmful substances like drugs and alcohol is important to protect the brain.
Reflexes:
The brain helps with quick reactions called reflexes. For example, when you touch something hot, your brain quickly tells your hand to move away.
Learning and Memory:
The brain helps you learn new things and store them as memories. Practice and repetition make learning easier.
