The Eyes

Key points :

Parts of the Eye:

  • Cornea: The transparent front part that helps focus light.
  • Iris: The colored part of the eye that controls how much light enters.
  • Pupil: The black circular opening in the iris that lets light in.
  • Lens: Focuses light onto the retina.
  • Retina: The layer at the back of the eye that senses light and sends signals to the brain.
  • Optic Nerve: Transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.

How We See:

  • Light enters through the cornea and pupil.
  • The lens bends (refracts) the light and focuses it on the retina.
  • Photoreceptors in the retina (rods and cones) detect light and color.
  • The optic nerve carries the image to the brain, which processes what we see.

Function of the Eye:

  • Eyes help us to detect light, colors, and shapes.
  • The brain interprets the images to help us understand the world around us.

Eye Care:

  • Avoid looking at bright lights or screens for a long time.
  • Eat foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E (e.g., carrots, spinach).
  • Regular eye check-ups are important to maintain good vision.

Common Eye Problems:

  • Myopia (Nearsightedness): Difficulty seeing distant objects.
  • Hyperopia (Farsightedness): Difficulty seeing nearby objects.
  • Astigmatism: Blurred vision due to the irregular shape of the cornea.
  • Wearing glasses or contact lenses can help correct vision problems.
