If the first letters are the same, we move on to the <em>second<\/em> letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bat<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bed<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Big<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All these words start with &#8216;B&#8217;, so we look at the second letter: &#8216;a&#8217;, &#8216;e&#8217;, and &#8216;i&#8217;. Since &#8216;a&#8217; comes first, then &#8216;e&#8217;, and then &#8216;i&#8217;, the words are in alphabetical order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-fixed-layout\" style=\"color:#000060\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Step 3: Using the Third Letter<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, here&#8217;s the newest part! If the first <em>two<\/em> letters are the same, we need to look at the <em>third<\/em> letter to decide the order!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Strand<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Street<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strong<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All of these start with &#8220;Str&#8221;. So, we look at the <em>third<\/em> letter: &#8216;a&#8217;, &#8216;e&#8217;, and &#8216;o&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Strand<\/em> comes first, then <em>Street<\/em>, then <em>Strong<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-fixed-layout\" style=\"color:#000060\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Step 4: What if there is no third letter?<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, a word might be shorter than three letters. In that case, we know that the word is going to be before all the other similar words that have a third letter. Check this out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Zoo<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zoom<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zooms<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though &#8220;Zoom&#8221; comes before &#8220;Zoo&#8221; alphabetically, when sorting by three letters, we know that &#8220;Zoo&#8221; comes first, because the third letter for the other words exists, and for &#8220;Zoo&#8221; it doesn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-fixed-layout\" style=\"color:#000060\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Example Time!<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s put these words in alphabetical order using the first three letters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bag<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Badge<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ball<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All the words start with &#8216;Ba&#8217;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let&#8217;s look at the third letter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Bag<\/em> is &#8216;g&#8217;, <em>Badge<\/em> is &#8216;d&#8217;, and <em>Ball<\/em> is &#8216;l&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>So, the correct order is:\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Badge<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bag<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ball<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-fixed-layout\" style=\"color:#000060\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Summary<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Great job today class!
