(Verb = runs)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sara <strong>is<\/strong> happy. (Verb = is)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-fixed-layout\" style=\"color:#000060\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Subject-Verb Agreement Rules \u2705<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Rule 1: Singular Subject \u2192 Singular Verb<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the subject is <strong>one person, animal, or thing<\/strong>, use a singular verb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udc31 The cat <strong>jumps<\/strong> high.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83d\udc68 The teacher <strong>teaches<\/strong> well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Rule 2: Plural Subject \u2192 Plural Verb<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the subject is <strong>more than one<\/strong>, use a plural verb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udc31\ud83d\udc31 The cats <strong>jump<\/strong> high.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83d\udc69\ud83d\udc68 The teachers <strong>teach<\/strong> well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Rule 3: Compound Subjects<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If two subjects are joined by <strong>and<\/strong>, use a <strong>plural verb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udc36 + \ud83d\udc31 The dog and the cat <strong>play<\/strong> together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If joined by <strong>or \/ nor<\/strong>, the verb agrees with the <strong>closest subject<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Either the cat or the dogs <strong>are<\/strong> hungry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neither the dogs nor the cat <strong>is<\/strong> hungry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Rule 4: Indefinite Pronouns<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some words like <strong>everyone, someone, anybody<\/strong> take <strong>singular verbs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Examples<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Everyone <strong>is<\/strong> happy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Somebody <strong>was<\/strong> at the door.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Rule 5: Collective Nouns<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Words like <strong>team, family, class<\/strong> may be <strong>singular or plural<\/strong> depending on meaning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Example<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The team <strong>is<\/strong> winning. (considered as one unit)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The team <strong>are<\/strong> arguing among themselves.
